High Praise for the Council
At the official opening of the new area of the Glebe, officials from the Lichfield Diocese presented the Council with a cheque for £5000.00 and congratulated Council Members on their pro-active approach to development within the Parish, stating that the Council was one of the most forward looking within the Diocese.
The grant was to assist in the development of pathways into and across the new area, which is being developed as a Countryside Park and has opened access to all Members of the Community including those who need wheelchair access. About fifty local residents were present to see the tape cut and much praise was given to Richard Bailey whose vision and enthusiasm has ensured that the project came to fruition. He in turn thanked the many volunteers who have given assistance with many of the tasks that have been undertaken and to the members of the local W.I who provided much needed refreshments on a cold and windy day.
The cost of the overall project is likely to be in excess of £20,000.00 and the Council acknowledges the financial support it has received from the Lottery Awards for All and Shropshire Council’s Local Joint Committee who have grant aided the purchase of some seats and picnic tables, which will soon be put in place.
The Council in turn has contributed a substantial amount of money which has come from the profits of various events and activities run by Council Members. Commenting, Parish Clerk Jack Wilson said, that from the beginning Members were determined that this project should not bear heavily on the householder’s local Council Tax payments, even though the community would benefit from a splendid new facility.
